Founded 1957
The NVNLA was founded in 1957 and originally named the Northern Virginia Nurseryman’s Association. This association was formed when Fairfax County was young and on the cusp of huge growth. At that time a small band of local nurserymen and landscapers felt an association was needed for the following reasons stated in the original book of minutes:
To promote the general welfare of the nursery industry in Northern Virginia
Increase the usefulness of the services of the industry to the general public
To promote the adoption of ethics and the application of higher business standards
To organize or sponsor events to educate the public and members
In 1998 the NVLA changed its name to correspond with our statewide association as well as to reflect larger parts of our memberships. The name was changed to NVNLA or the Northern Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association. For almost 60 years now, we continue to strive to meet the goals in which were originally put in place valuing education, high ethical business standards and general welfare of local nursery and nursery related business.
Welcome to the NVNLA
Although the name of the association has changed slightly over 55 years, our mission has remained the same: to serve the nursery and landscape professionals of Northern Virginia through education, training and professional development.
On behalf of its members, the NVNLA works to promote the field of horticulture as well as the high standards of quality, integrity and professionalism that have always been and remain the hallmarks of our association.
