NVNLA Committees
Green Committee
Chair: Lanelle Kyle
The mission of the NVNLA Green Committee is to provide opportunity and support to NVNLA members participating in community service projects that involve elements of the soft-scape while promoting industry standards and educational outreach. Our first goal is to assist in organizing a project by connecting members to use their unique skills and resources to beautify a feature in the community. Successful projects will advance the participating members’ brands, improve networking among companies, and provide a great service to the community.
Possible projects might include the cleanup or renovation of planting areas for a library, school, fire station or other community facility. A more comprehensive project could mean partnering with the NVNLA Hardscape Committee to really make a greater positive impact. We look forward to working on projects with fellow members and among our communities.
We have an opportunity for the right person to become chair of the Green Committee. If you’re interested, or if you have a project idea, please contact Seana Ankers at info@nvnla.org or 703-594-6575.
Hardscape Committee
Chair: Jesse Foley
The Hardscapes Committee focuses on education and promotion of the association.
The committee provides a forum to help our members gain knowledge of proper hardscapes installation techniques. We do this through training classes held on various sites in the area as well as meeting discussions. We promote various certification classes to further the professionalism of this part of the industry. Our activities are intended to add value to NVNLA membership. The committee consists of NVNLA Contractors, Manufacturers Representatives and Local Suppliers. We encourage our members to invite co-workers, subcontractors and product suppliers to participate in our activities.
We look for local, non-profit organization sites as place to install small Hardscape projects which we also use for training purposes. We have worked with Habitat for Humanity and Loudoun County Public Schools to provide much-needed hardscape improvements. These projects are typically one-day installations of products such as segmental retaining walls, interlocking pavement systems, permeable pavement systems, natural stone walls and flagstone walkways. We encourage our membership to recommend site opportunities for future projects so we can expand our education program. Our meetings usually immediately precede the NVNLA General Meetings. Please contact Seana Ankers at info@nvnla.org or 703-594-6575.
Education Committee
Chair: Chuck Wood
Providing educational opportunities has long been an important function of the NVNLA. Structured programs we offer include our Spring Jump Start Meeting, the Green Industry Professional Seminar and Pesticide Applicator Re-Certification, the Green Industry Professional Field Day and Trade Show, our Virginia Certified Horticulturist Test Review Classes (More information coming soon.)
Informal educational opportunities abound at our general membership meetings. The meetings are held at interesting sites, usually with expertly lead tours. We often have programs at the meetings that expose the members to the latest developments in the industry or inspire them to try ‘something new.’
